The Mechanics' Institute is the oldest continuously running chess club in the U.S., having started in 1854. This historic club has been at the heart of chess in the bay area, and now we are proud to bring our scholastic program to Burlingame. Our class is suitable for all level of players, beginner to advanced, as we have the coaches to accommodate different skill levels. Our emphasis in on inspiring joy in the learning and playing of chess, and developing social-emotional life skills through the playing of chess, such as sportsmanship, learning from mistakes, and critical thinking. We believe in the importance of having fun while learning and compliment this with master rated instructors who know how to make the learning fun for kids.
