The Mechanics’ Institute Chess Club, founded in 1854, is excited to return for another year of chess at Alvarado!
This Tuesday class will be focused on teaching younger students in Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grades by making chess fun an engaging!
Through the power of play, we give children a tool to make friends from diverse backgrounds, practice making and achieving long-term strategic plans, and prove to themselves that they are powerful, smart, and capable regardless of their background.
In this class, we will focus on how the pieces move and their relative values, basic checkmate patterns, and eliminating common beginner mistakes.
