Afterschool Chess at Jose Ortega Elementary

The Mechanics’ Institute Chess Club, founded in 1854, is excited to offer chess at Jose Ortega Elementary. Our chess classes offer beginners the chance to learn chess and experienced players the opportunity to refine their play. Our coaches not only guide children through the royal game of chess but also help our students develop crucial social and emotional skills. In our classes, students learn the values inherent in chess, including good sportsmanship, patience, and flexibility. Join us and start a lifelong journey through one of the world’s greatest games.
